I love the feeling you get when you find a band you absolutely love. You just can’t stop listening and you wish somehow every song just wouldn’t end. For me, one of those bands is Valley. They’re difficult to search for online due to the ambiguous nature of their name, but its definitely worth the journey to find them.
The band is a four-piece from Toronto, Canada. They’re made up of Rob Laska (lead vocals), Michael Brandolino (guitar), Alex Dimauro (bass) and Karah James (drums/some vocals). Valley was formed in 2014 and since then have put out three full albums: Car Test (2015), This Room is White (2016) and Maybe (2018/19). Click any of the albums below to purchase.
In terms of their accidental formation, the members of Valley met as a result of a scheduling mistake. In February 2014, two bands from which the members originated, were double-book for the same time at a local recording studio. The future bandmates met and the rest is history.
As far as their sound, they’re described as Indie Pop. I’m not quite sure, necessarily, what the parameters are for that genre, but the band is definitely unique. They often display a full range of instruments as well as voices in their music. Everything from piano to guitar to virtual instruments make up each track, with even a sprinkling of ear candy on top. A term coined by the band in a recent video interview they posted to their YouTube channel. Overall, I love the big, full sound they achieve in each song and their blending of male with female vocals is the best I’ve heard from a band in quite some time.
But don’t take SoundsLikeIndie‘s word for it. Check out their website and socials for yourself to hear more.
